Abstract

This essay seeks to relate the theme of isolation, from two perspectives: the account of the experiences of spatial isolation of astronauts, members of NASA (2020) and Space Station crew members, and the imaginary of spatial travel in science fiction narrative. Both discourses are intended to produce a critical reflection on the cultural implications of social isolation, a measure adopted since the beginning of the year to slow down the contagion curves of Covid-19. Considering the global health emergency as an event of transformations of the "normal", it tries to produce a figurative look about the contemporaneity, thinking it from the poetry of isolation, reported by astronauts and spread by science fiction, in pop culture. The considerations, in exploratory character, point to the need to inhabit (INGOLD, 2015) the space of isolation as a territory located between internal/external, individuality and sociality, on the margin of what we consider familiar.
